Protesters in support of the preservation of the Bulgarian lev temporarily blocked traffic in the center of the Bulgarian capital Sofia on Sunday evening. Protests were also held in many regional cities of Bulgaria.

Small mobile groups of supporters of parliamentary parties that want a referendum on the introduction of the euro blocked a number of key roads in the country.

There were blockades in front of the Danube border bridges at Ruse and Vidin, on the so-called Sub-Balkan road and on the central passes of the Stara Planina Mountains.

The protesters carried Bulgarian flags and banners with inscriptions in favor of preserving the Bulgarian lev. They chanted "Resign!" and demanded the holding of a referendum proposed by President Rumen Radev on the introduction of the euro from 2026. According to BNR correspondents in the country, there were also slogans for leaving the EU and NATO.
