In advance, Bulgarians from the Seattle area received a congratulatory address from the University of Washington. “The bright presence and commitment of the Bulgarian-American community in Seattle are an example of the shared values of learning and cultural pride that resonate in the mission of our university,” the congratulatory address to the Bulgarian community says, reported BNR correspondent in Chicago Elena Tsaneva.
The Bulgarian community in this part of the United States numbers about 10,000 people. Many of the Bulgarians there are involved in computer technology, but they have not severed ties with their homeland, and May 24 is always a unifying day for them.

Performances by the “Toromanov Band”, folk dances, children’s recitals and culinary surprises were part of the festive gathering for more than 400 Bulgarians in the Seattle area.
