Mary Boys Band included a new initiative as part of celebrating their 30th anniversary – to release their albums on vinyl.
They chose the album ''Samo za teb'' (Only for You) – the second in their collection – to be the first one released on vinyl. Even though more than 20 years have passed since its release, the choice seems to be the right one: half of the vinyl copies have already sold out even before the official premiere, which is scheduled for May 30 with a concert at Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) – the place where the band's first professional recordings were made.
Maria Mutafchieva – frontwoman and main songwriter of Mary Boys Band – explained why they chose to start with this album:
"Because it’s dedicated to love. We will now go back to this album and will perform it live for the people who come to the concert at Studio 1 of the BNR. We're going to recall and tell the stories of the songs and the singles we released over the years, because that album contains iconic songs for Mary Boys Band – songs that, if we don’t perform at a concert, the audience chants and asks for them."
Regarding the importance of BNR in the development of Mary Boys Band, Maria Mutafchieva shared:
"We haven’t had a solo concert in Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio for 13 years. Before that, we had two iconic concerts there. That studio is important to me because it’s where I made my very first recordings – as a vocalist, as a singer, as someone who creates original music. At the upcoming concert, I plan to stand in the exact spot where I once stood and show the audience where I first sang."
Mary Boys Band's latest song "My Places" will be performed on May 30. Maria and her husband Miroslav Mutafchiev wrote it for a deeply personal reason:
''My Places was written by Miro and me to mark our 30th wedding anniversary. It’s a song filled with humor that only the two of us understand. We tell stories about places – the field with snowdrops, the waterfall – places only we know… But I believe everyone has special places like that with their loved one, and when they hear the song, they’ll think of them. In fact, that's the best thing about life - that it can be shared", said Maria Mutafchieva.
