The introduction of the euro will not affect household electricity prices, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov told BNR. He added that from the day Bulgaria adopts the single European currency, electricity bills will be recalculated at the legally approved exchange rate between the lev and the euro.

The minister also said that a report on the price and construction deadline for units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant should be ready by the middle of the year. 'We insist that the reactors be equipped with the best technology available, which is Westinghouse's AP1000, and at the best financial conditions, because this will mean the price of the energy produced will be as low as possible for citizens and businesses,' he emphasised.

As for what will happen to the two Russian reactors from the cancelled Belene nuclear power plant project, which the National Assembly banned from being sold to Ukraine, Zhecho Stankov said that the possibility of using them for future projects for databases and artificial intelligence centres requiring large amounts of electricity is being discussed.
