At a meeting with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stressed that the country is on the eve of the adoption of the Euro, which will start a new chapter for Bulgaria’s economy. Adoption of the euro on 1 January, 2026, is a top priority for the government, he said. The intensive phase of the communication campaign for the euro is forthcoming, PM Zhelyazkov stated further.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva described the country’s membership of the Eurozone as an excellent chance for Bulgaria, pointing to the advantages, among which higher investment attractiveness, better protection for the country within the Eurozone, and Europe’s chance of a bigger leadership role in world economy, and the opportunities ensuing from this for Bulgaria.
