This country will strive to use the mechanisms of the European Union to have greater fiscal freedom in terms of defence spending while adhering to a conservative financial policy in view of the expected accession to the eurozone. This was what Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov said at the meeting of heads of state and government in Vilnius, the ministry's press center reported, quoted by BTA.
The Bulgarian minister pointed out that at the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague, the Alliance should reaffirm its role as the main guarantor of collective security in the Euro-Atlantic area. As for defence spending, he pointed out the importance not only of allocating more funds, but also of using these resources more effectively, taking into account the priorities in the field of security and defence.
