Over 100 string instruments to be showcased at international lutherie competition in Kazanlak

The 19th International Competition for Contemporary Lutherie begins in Kazanlak today. Running until 7 June, the forum aims to promote the traditions and crafts of musical instrument making, according to the Bulgarian News Agency BTA.


Participants from Japan, China, Italy, France and Bulgaria are expected to present over 100 string instruments, including violins, violas and cellos.

The competition is organised by the local administration in collaboration with Kazanlak's honorary citizen, luthier Edrio Edrev, and the Italian Association of Luthiers. It is part of the Rose Festival programme and once the judging is complete, the instruments will be exhibited at the Rose Museum in Kazanlak until 10 June 2025.
