Bulgarian-Macedonian historical commission meets fruitlessly in Skopje

On June 12, the 36th meeting of the joint multidisciplinary historical commission between Bulgaria and North Macedonia was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Skopje, BGNES reports.

"The meeting is no different from the previous ones. The atmosphere was best during lunch. But we do not agree on the essential issues that we need to debate. I cannot say that we have done anything useful," said the co-chair from the Bulgarian side, Prof. Angel Dimitrov.

The Macedonian colleagues raised the issue of Marko Tsepenkov, which surprised me, says Dimitrov. "He is a significant figure in the field of culture who is respected in both countries, but we did not reach an agreement with the colleagues from Skopje", the Bulgarian professor explained.

He announced that two meetings would take place in September. One will be online, and the other in a narrower circle, to finish preparing the backlogged minutes from previous meetings. "This is how we have been operating for a long time, despite the fact that this contradicts the main goal of the work of the commission," Dimitrov added.
