The low level of the Danube River makes navigation in the Bulgarian section difficult. Two sandbars have formed, Ivelin Zanev, executive director of the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River, told BTA.

The two critical sections are in the areas of the islands of Batin and Belene.

"The agency's teams are carrying out daily observations and measurements in different sections of the river," Zanev said. According to him, the necessary measures will be taken to ensure the safe passage of vessels. "Since the beginning of the year, levels that are below average from a hydrological point of view have been observed," Zanev commented.
