Professional boxer Joana Nwamerue is returning to the ring after taking more than a year out of competition. The Bulgarian boxer, whose father is Nigerian, is set to face Karla Garcia of Mexico on 12 July in Sioux City, Iowa, USA, according to sports website Sportal.bg.

Ms Nwamerue, who currently resides in the United States, dislocated her shoulder during a qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics. She then underwent surgery in her home country. Six months after the operation, she left for the United States, where she has been training under Ibn Cason in Las Vegas ever since.

The boxer has won all six of her professional fights to date. She has achieved three of her victories by knockout.
