It is of the utmost importance that the Bulgarian delegation in the European Parliament votes unanimously in favour of Bulgaria. The Prime Minister said this to journalists in Razlog ahead of tomorrow's European Parliament decision on the country's eurozone membership. Following the European Parliament vote, a final vote will take place in the EU Council in ECOFIN format. This will be followed by the formal signing of the three legal acts necessary for Bulgaria to adopt the euro on 1 January 2026.

A large-scale information campaign will begin in August, alongside intensive work by state institutions to prevent fraud and speculation in connection with Bulgaria's transition to the euro.

One month after the Council's decision, dual pricing of all goods and services will begin. Zhelyazkov urged people not to rush to exchange their levs for euros. He noted that, from 1 January 2026, banks and post offices will exchange currency free of charge for six months. After this period, commercial banks may introduce a fee, but the process will remain free of charge at the Bulgarian National Bank, as reported by BTA.
