According to the National Revenue Agency’s latest figures, 4,329 Bulgarians hold real estate in 68 countries. Their number has increased by 725 people in just one year. Any Bulgarian who owns property in Greece should prepare for an income audit by the National Revenue Agency. For this year, the revenue agency has planned a campaign targeting individuals who have acquired real estate in Bulgaria’s southern neighbor. In such cases, owners are typically required to present documents proving their income over the past five years.

Greece has become the most popular destination for Bulgarian property buyers. By the end of 2024, 3,228 individuals had declared property ownership there. In 2019, their number was only 742. Data from the Bank of Greece show that between 2017 and 2021, Bulgarians invested a total of EUR 127 million in Greek residential properties.
