The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a position following the presence of German Ambassador to Bulgaria Irene Maria Planck at last night's protest in Sofia against the detention of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, BNR  reported.
The Ministry stressed the importance of respecting the principles of respect and impartiality towards the internal political processes of the host country as a basis for maintaining good tone and mutual trust between institutions.

Without mentioning Irene Maria Planck's name, it called on representatives of diplomatic missions in the country and their heads to show particular attention and professional sensitivity regarding their public appearances, in order to avoid opportunities for their instrumentalization for internal political purposes.

"Any direct or indirect involvement in political processes at the national level risks placing diplomatic representatives in a position incompatible with the nature of their mandate and the functions of the diplomatic service as a whole," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
