Orange heat warning Issued nationwide, except for the coast

On Wednesday, minimum temperatures will range between 17°C and 23°C, with Sofia at 17°C. The morning will be mostly sunny, but atmospheric instability is expected to develop in the afternoon. Cumulonimbus clouds will form, leading to brief showers and thunderstorms, particularly across western and central regions. Relatively cooler air will temporarily move into northern Bulgaria. Winds will be light to moderate, coming from the east-northeast. An orange alert for extreme heat is in place across the entire country except the coastal regions. Maximum temperatures will range from 35°C to 40°C, with around 35°C in the capital.


In the mountains, the morning will be sunny, followed by the development of showers and thunderstorms in the western massifs during the afternoon. Winds will be moderate to strong from the east, and from the south-southwest over the highest ridges. The maximum temperature will be around 31°C at 1200 metres and 24°C at 2000 metres.


Along the Black Sea coast, the weather will be sunny and hot in the afternoon, with moderate northeasterly winds. Air temperatures will range between 29°C and 32°C. Sea temperatures will be between 24°C and 26°C, dropping to 15–18°C in the north. The sea state will be moderate, with waves at 2 to 3 Beaufort.


On Thursday, the weather will remain mostly sunny, but cumulus clouds will develop, bringing scattered short-term rain and thunderstorms, especially in mountainous areas. Conditions will stay calm and hot, with maximum temperatures again between 35°C and 40°C.
