The State Agency for Refugees is supporting a joint initiative by the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Bulgarian Red Cross to screen asylum seekers in the country for tuberculosis. This was announced by the Agency's chairman, Ivan Ivanov, at a meeting with the Chief State Health Inspector, Associate Professor Angel Kunchev, and Tsvetalina Ananieva, a WHO National Office consultant, as reported by BTA.

The campaign aims to support the efforts of health authorities to prevent and control tuberculosis, with a focus on refugees from high-risk regions. Mobile medical teams will conduct screenings at registration and reception centres in Sofia and Harmanli. Due to the large number of refugees from Ukraine, activities will also be focused on Sofia and the regions of Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, Dobrich, Burgas and Varna.
