At a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science, Metropolitan Gavriil of Lovech presented the official position of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC), expressing support for the Ministry of Education’s initiative to introduce the subject "Religions and Virtues" as part of the mandatory school curriculum.

During his statement, Metropolitan Gavriil emphasized that there are significantly more parents who want their children to study Orthodox Christianity than there are available opportunities in schools. Committee Chair Andrey

Chorbanov, in turn, stressed that children who choose the "Religion" modules will be taught by qualified educators and that the secular nature of education will in no way be compromised. Chorbanov added that many of the public fears about undermining secular education are entirely unfounded.
