The Council of Ministers has decided to grant a total of €460,176 in aid to families affected by the forest fires.
'Until now, they could apply for €978. 'We are now providing an additional €1,533 per family, bringing the total to approximately €2,556. An additional €1,278 can be applied for to replace equipment burned or destroyed in the fires," said Social Affairs Minister Borislav Gutsanov, as quoted by BTA. He specified that aid will only be granted for primary residences that are legal, but not for holiday homes.
Mr Gutsanov also thanked Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov for his prompt response and for raising the matter at the cabinet meeting.
'This is how we should act in emergencies like this, when fires are destroying the homes and property of Bulgarian families,' he said.
