Greek farmers in the Evros region are waiting for a long-term solution with Bulgaria on the water of the Arda River. There is still no agreement with Bulgaria on the supply of water to the Evros region, the farmers' union in Orestiada told media. During a meeting with the regional governor, they received assurances that water will be provided for one year, while the deputy minister of agricultural development promised them water until the end of September.
Farmers in Northern Greece are outraged that the government has not yet reached any agreement with Bulgaria on the supply of water. Nothing has been done to reach an understanding between the two sides before the contract expires and now they are only seeking a temporarily solution, farmers say. It is not even known what the price of water from the Arda River would be, which affects agriculture in the entire region, farmers add, quoted by BNR correspondent in Greece Katya Peeva.
