A dead Egyptian vulture was found near the village of Hrastovo in Krumovgrad municipality, the press center of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kardzhali announced. Samples were taken from the bird, which is a protected species. It is assumed that the death was caused by a poisoned wolf bait. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.

The bird is female and is from a nesting pair. It has been established that the male vulture is not poisoned. The pair also has a two-month-old chick that cannot fly and take care of itself. A team from the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds has transported the baby vulture to the Rescue Center in Stara Zagora, where it will be cared for.

The deceased bird was hatched five years ago at the Rescue Center.
