The Bulgarian-Macedonian Association “Podkrepa” in Portland, Oregon, has extended an invitation to “Balkanalia”. This will be “a weekend filled with music and dance at the beautiful Angelos Campground on the Sandy River.” The event will take place from Friday, August 29 to Monday, September 1, the Podkrepa Association announced on its Facebook page.

This year, the camp will offer lessons specifically aimed at beginners. “New to Balkan music and dance? Never danced a horo? Never played in a jam session with a band or ensemble? This year is your chance!” invites the Bulgarian-Macedonian Association “Podkrepa.”

There will be classes for both beginners and all other levels. The classes will be in folk dances and singing from Bulgaria and Macedonia, Roma singing, tambourine and tampan.

The following groups will also perform at “Balkanalia”: “Staro Selo”, “Veselyatsi”, “Gora Gora” (Balkan brass band from Colorado). There is also a planned program for children.

Those wishing to participate in the event must register on the event website, where the camp program is also posted.
