Security services in Bulgaria are conducting searches and seizures at homes and offices in Sofia and other parts of the country. The operations are being carried out at the request of Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau, as part of an investigation into corruption offences involving the sale of arms at inflated prices, the Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed.

Investigators from the National Investigation Service, officers from the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (GDBOP) at the Ministry of the Interior, and the General Directorate “Gendarmerie, Special Operations and Counter-Terrorism” are involved in the raids.

According to unofficial reports from BNT, the action follows an anonymous tip-off from Kyiv alleging that a Bulgarian weapons company had sold arms to Russia illegally, in breach of international sanctions. National Television also reports that the operation comes just days after a meeting in Sofia between Acting Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov and officers from the FBI's Sofia office.
