According to a poll commissioned by the Ministry of Finance, 49.2% of Bulgarians support joining the eurozone, while 45.8% oppose it. Businesses are more optimistic, with 69% in favour and 30.2% opposed.

The survey, conducted by the Alpha Research agency between 8 and 22 July, interviewed 1,200 citizens and 500 business representatives as part of ongoing monitoring of public attitudes towards Bulgaria’s accession to the eurozone.

Public and business attitudes towards Bulgaria joining the eurozone: Turquoise – approval, Yellow – disapproval, Grey – undecided.

The main concerns among citizens focus on the short-term impact of adopting the euro, with 71% fearing price speculation and artificially inflated prices. In the long term, however, both citizens and businesses are more positive—particularly entrepreneurs, 65% of whom expect benefits compared to 22% with a negative outlook.

Expected advantages include easier travel and payments abroad, smoother trade with other European countries, and the elimination of losses when exchanging levs for euros.
