Fire near Kardzhali Dam poses threat to nearby villages

Photo: Radio Kardzhali

All night long, fire brigade teams and forest officials made every effort to prevent the large forest fire that broke out yesterday in the late afternoon near the Kardzhali Dam from spreading to the nearby villages of Ridovo and Snezhinkite. The fire covered about 200 acres of mixed forest on terrain that is difficult to extinguish and threatened nearby houses.

The local government expressed its readiness to provide shelter to people from nearby villages if evacuation was necessary, and some of them left their homes in advance.

About 200 people live in this area, from the villages, small hamlets around and villa areas along the shore of the water reservoir. The teams remain on the ground - 6 fire trucks and equipment from the forest services and the municipality of Kardzhali. They continue with the clearings in the forest to prevent the fire from spreading.
