In the heart of the Rose Valley, at the foot of the Stara Planina and Sredna Gora Mountains, the Kalofer Lace Festival is being held for the 26th time.

The range of events is rich - guests of the two sub-Balkan towns, Karlovo and Kalofer, are witnesses of exhibitions, concerts, bazaars and demonstrations. The official opening of the festival was held in Kalofer with the blessing of water, immediately after the festive liturgy on the occasion of the great church holiday of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A performance tells the story of Kalofer lace, and the Kalofer Lace Creative Center in the town is open until August 18.

A novelty in the program is the holding of the International Lacemaking Congress for the first time in Bulgaria. Within the framework of the congress, lectures, workshops and exhibitions will be held, presenting various techniques and traditions in knitting shuttle lace from all over the world. Hosting such an event is an exceptional recognition of the value of this art, which began its development in our country from Kalofer, as well as of the achievements of the people of Bulgaria, who are fully committed to the popularization of shuttle lace in Bulgaria and around the world, free of charge.

Thousands of shuttle lace roses, woven in a uniform pattern, arrived from various parts of the world. They are "woven" into a lace arch that welcomes the participants and guests of Kalofer. South Africa, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, the USA - these are just some of the countries from which participants are expected, reported the BNR correspondent for the region Kremena Daneva
