Scientists have discovered new bones of dinosaurs and other vertebrates near the town of Tran in Bulgaria. This happened during the eighth palaeontological expedition of the National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), which ended a few days ago, BNR Blagoevgrad has reported. "The most interesting discovery is an almost completely preserved dinosaur rib," Assoc. Prof. Latinka Hristova said about the results of the expedition.

The site near Tran was discovered in 2017 and since then many valuable fossils from the Late Cretaceous Period have been discovered. It turned out the site was much richer and more interesting than palaeontologists had hoped. This year, about 30 new fossil remains of vertebrates were discovered. Other finds include pieces of various sized bones, including from a dinosaur, several larger fragments of turtle shells, about half a dozen teeth from two species of crocodiles, etc. Palaeontologists also collected a variety of fossil seeds and nuts, which will reveal more information about the characteristics of the local flora during the period.
