The former House-Monument of the Bulgarian Communist Party on Mount Buzludzha should be preserved and turned into a tourist destination that brings benefits and funds to the region. This opinion was shared by visitors to the Open Buzludzha festival, who commented on their vision for the future of the place for the Bulgarian News Agency BTA.

The three-day festival brought together guests from the country and abroad, who came to learn more about the history of the monument, as well as about future activities for its conservation and socialization.

"Given that nothing has been done in this direction for nearly 35 years, I believe that the upcoming project of the Kazanlak Municipality to secure the monument is a good start," said Kazanlak photographer Bedros Azinyan, who was among the staff photographers at the site during its construction and operation. He expressed hope that the project will have its own continuity and that part of the monument will be restored so that it can become a tourist site.

"I see the monument from my terrace every morning," Todor Ivanov from Kazanlak told BTA. He pointed out that he was at the festival with his children not only because it has an interesting daily program, but also because he wants them to learn about history, no matter how painful it is.

Over the next 36 months, the project "Preservation and Adaptation of the Buzludzha Monument - Stage 1 - Consolidation" is to be implemented, part of the Concept for Integrated Territorial Investments of the Kazanlak Municipality. The activities will be implemented jointly with the "Buzludzha Project" Foundation and the Regional Administration - Stara Zagora, since the monument is private state property, and are worth almost seven million leva. It is planned to build a new roof and replace the windows of the building, which are the most urgent steps for its safety.
