A child and his mother are in a life-threatening condition after being hit by an ATV  in the resort of Sunny Beach and are now in intensive care in the hospital in Burgas.

A total of five people, including a hotel employee, were injured in the serious accident in the resort.  The accident took place around 2 pm on a street between two hotels in Sunny Beach.

Three other people are also injured and are being treated in different departments of the University Multi-profile Hospital for active treatment in Burgas, but their lives are not in danger, the hospital announced.

The serious accident with the ATV occurred immediately after it was rented by 18-year-old Nikola Burgazliev who drove off along the alley. According to his explanations to the police, he discovered that the brakes were missing. To avoid a collision with an oncoming car, the driver swerved to the right and, getting on the sidewalk, hit the tourists moving there - a family from Plovdiv.

The father was not injured, but his two nieces, aged 6 and 12,  are also in the hospital. The vehicle also hit a 49-year-old employee of the Melia Hotel, stopping in the facade of the building.

The driver has been detained for up to 24 hours.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
