One of Puccini's most popular and beloved operas - "Tosca" - will open the new season of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. The performances are on September 26 and 28, the opera announced. Three of the most acclaimed singers at the moment have been invited to the central roles - Maria José Siri will be Tosca, Stefan Pop - Cavaradossi, and Claudio Sgura - Baron Scarpia

Plamen Kartaloff's production has been on the playbill of the opera theater for 14 years. It has been performed in Japan and Turkey. "I have tried to build a spectacle full of passion, revolution and fire. Four of the characters die, but not for political reasons, all in the name of love. The finale is unique - it does not matter whether Tosca jumps into the abyss, the important thing is that love dies," says Academician Kartaloff.

Maria José Siri was born on December 24, 1976 in Uruguay. Her interpretations are highly appreciated and in 2017 she was awarded the Oscar della Lirica award. The singer will arrive in Sofia after a series of performances at the Arena di Verona festival, where she is applauded as Abigail in "Nabucco" and Aida.

Stefan Pop was born in 1987 in Bistrita, Romania. He was a guest of the Sofia Opera for the performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem last season. Even then, he expressed his desire to return to Bulgaria
