Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva and National Social Security Institute governor Vesela Karaivanova are preparing a joint information campaign regarding the adoption of the euro in the country on 1 January, 2025, targeted at older people, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.
The initiative entitled “Pensions in euro” starts on 19 September from Dupnitsa, and will target mostly small populated areas. The main purpose of the local offices will be to inform and consult pensioners about all questions connected with the upcoming change – from recalculating pensions in euro to how to recognize counterfeit banknotes. They will also be given leaflets with samples of euro bills and coins so they can recognize them and their different elements.
The process of currency conversion worries quite a lot of the elderly, reports received at the Ombudsman’s office show.
