Employees of the Sofia Customs Territorial Directorate prevented an illegal attempt to ship nearly 10,000 packs of cigarettes, the press center of the Customs Agency has reported. The cigarettes were packed in postal and courier shipments, described and concealed as various household goods.

Since the beginning of the year, the customs officers of the directorate have detained 191,260 pieces (9,563 packs) of cigarettes during attempts to smuggle tobacco products through the network of courier and postal operators. Most of them were with a Bulgarian excise stamp and intended for the UK, where prices are much higher.

The senders are trying to hide the cigarettes in various ways - in welded metal cylinders/boxes, in whey protein packages, in cans, in packages of confectionery.
