Opera prima Sonya Yoncheva performs alongside José Carreras and Placido Domingo in the heart of Sofia tonight

Three stars of world renown – tenor José Carreras, Sonya Yoncheva and Placido Domingo will be performing tonight in front of the St. Alexander Nevski cathedral in the second Gala in Sofia concert.

The first part of Gala in Sofia brought the audience to their feet, and ended in three encores. The concert, dubbed Italian Night, featured world-famous tenor Vittorio Grigolo who was visiting Bulgaria for the first time at the invitation of Sonya Yoncheva who also took part. The gala, with the participation of the Sofia Philharmonic, was conducted by Nayden Todorov.

During the encores Vittorio Grigolo performed Johnny Mandel ‘s The Shadow of Your Smile, better known from the repertoire of Frank Sinatra and performed to honour his memory. Sonya Yoncheva sang Édith Piaf ‘s La Vie en Rose, and in the end the duet sang O, Sole Mio.
