Bulgaria’s development of nuclear energy requires clear objectives, detailed calculations and safety guarantees, with expert participation and assessments taking a leading role, President Rumen Radev said. He made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian Atomic Forum (BULATOM).
Participants agreed on the need for long-term state policies to achieve energy autonomy and sustainability by developing nuclear power as a source of baseload energy with low environmental impact.
Regarding the planned construction of Units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, Radev emphasized the importance of training and preparing a sufficient number of Bulgarian specialists and experts in a timely manner. These specialists and experts will participate in building the facilities and ensuring their safe operation and maintenance.
It was noted that without a clear financial framework and information on the final cost of the new nuclear units, delaying the process could lead to higher expenses due to potential inflation.
