A Dublin folk dance group is bringing Bulgarian culture to the Irish capital and highlighting the lesser-known link between Ireland and James Bourchier. 'Bread and Salt' will host events at the Dublin Festival of History, performing traditional dances in colourful Bulgarian costumes.
"The Festival of History is an annual event that brings enthusiasts, experts and organisations together around the theme of history. Last year, we participated for the first time with a one-hour performance which provided a brief overview of the historical links between Ireland and Bulgaria,” said the group’s leader, Slavi Begov. “We also introduced some of our folklore — visitors could see two original traditional costumes and learn the steps of a few horo dances.”
This year, the dance group plans to highlight Bourchier’s life and work, presenting his significance for Bulgaria to festival visitors. The events will take place on 26 September and 3 October in the same hall in Dublin’s Santry neighbourhood where the group holds its rehearsals.
