A newly built five-kilometer stretch of sensor line was inaugurated along the Bulgaria-Turkiye border near the village of Kraynovo (Yambol district). The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov and Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, Director of the Border Police General Directorate.
''By December 2026, the Bulgaria-Turkiye border will become a model border'', Anton Zlatanov said at the opening. He noted that since the beginning of 2025, 18 kilometers have already been covered with a sensor line for video surveillance. The sensor line is part of a project worth 170 million BGN that Bulgaria is implementing to expand the coverage of the integrated border monitoring system.
The project will cover 100 kilometers of the border with approximately 2,500 state-of-the-art cameras in areas not previously covered by video surveillance. An anti-drone system is also included in the project. A demonstration of enemy drone interception and counteraction was held on-site today.
''This is the busiest external border of the EU, as well as one of the busiest borders in the world'', said Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov, quoted by BTA.
