Bulgaria says migrant pressure at Turkish border down more than tenfold

Migrant pressure on Bulgaria’s border with Turkey has fallen more than tenfold in the past two years, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov said on Thursday at the opening of a new sensor line with 101 cameras.
Mitov praised border police for preventing “chaos from illegal migration” and cited official figures: 1,210 attempted crossings blocked on Sept. 5, 2023; 260 last year; and 33 today.
“Although the pressure is not zero, it has been reduced more than ten times. It is under control, but it is not over. That is why we must continue at this pace,” he said, according to the Interior Ministry press service, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov said on Thursday at the opening of a new sensor line with 101 cameras.
