During his official visit to Montenegro, Bulgarian PM Rosen Zhelyazkov inaugurated a memorial bust to Prince Alexander I of Bulgaria at the faculty of political sciences of the state university in Podgorica.

In a lecture delivered to students before the ceremony, Rosen Zhelyazkov stated that the two countries are connected with age-old cultural, historical and spiritual bonds based on the common origin of the two languages going back to medieval times. In 1877, Montenegrins fought and laid down their lives for the freedom of Bulgaria, Rosen Zhelyazkov said.

In our modern history, Rosen Zhelyazkov stated, Bulgaria is one of the first countries to have recognized the independence of Montenegro and among the first to have ratified its accession to NATO. But what matters most is that today we are together in our European road, he said.
