Ivan Ivanov and Alexander Vasilev have officially qualified for the Junior Masters tournament for the world’s top 8 under 18 tennis players. The tournament will take place 22-26 October in Chengdu, China. The champion could win USD 23,000. The players will be distributed in two groups of four players, with the top 2 players from each group qualifying for the semi-finals.
Ivan Ivanov, champion of the US Open Junior Tennis Championships, is leader of the under 18 rank list by a wide margin. The 16-year old Bulgarian player won the singles title in New York, before that, on 13 July, he won the Wimbledon junior title as well. Alexander Vasilev, vice champion at the US Open Junior Tennis Championships climbed to second place with 2,577.5 points. Before that he reached the singles semi-final and the doubles quarter-final at Wimbledon; he has also played at the Roland-Garros quarter-finals.
For Ivan Ivanov and for Alexander Vasilev, the tournament in Chengdu will be the last time they play as juniors.
