A new Institute for the Bulgarian Diaspora and Cultural Heritage Abroad has been launched at the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (UniBIT). The move was approved by the government at the request of the university rector.

The institute will research the history, culture, and current issues facing Bulgarian communities abroad, and explore ways the state and civil society can support them. Students from diaspora communities will be able to join bachelor’s and master’s programmes, as well as doctoral research.

Its goals include fostering cooperation between public institutions and UniBIT and studying how Bulgarians abroad can preserve their cultural identity
