Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov participated in a reception organised by the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York on the occasion of the 117th anniversary of the declaration of the country's Independence.

In his speech to the guests at the reception on the occasion of Bulgaria's Independence Day, the Prime Minister pointed out that when we are together, because we share the same values, such as humanism, democracy and the virtues that unite us, then we have the optimism that we will survive both as people and as a nation.

Zhelyazkov said that the Bulgarian diaspora in the US has proven its resilience, as well as its contribution to the development of social relations, both in the US and while preserving its Bulgarian roots.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the imminent abolition of visas in the US, stating that Bulgaria has fulfilled the technical criteria and in 2024 achieved a record reduction in refusals for issuing US visas to Bulgarian citizens, currently within 6%. Rosen Zhelyazkov also expressed confidence in the upcoming opening of a direct flight between Sofia and New York.
