Currently, out of nearly 8,000 children deprived of parental care, just 850 have permission for full adoption. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy Ivan Krastev at a roundtable in Sofia, specifying that about 3,700 children have been placed with relatives, while the rest are in foster families or family-type accommodation centers.

"We are obliged as institutions and as a society to talk more about the chance that is given to some children and taken away from others to find their family," Krastev said, quoted by BTA. He declared himself in support of "giving children an earlier opportunity to be adopted" when reintegration into the biological family is unsuccessful. Currently, the work on the reintegration of a child into the family officially lasts 2 years, but often this period is significantly exceeded.

It was pointed out that there are also cases of cancelled adoption in which the shock experienced by the child is serious.
