Bulgaria can be gateway for American gas to Europe

Bulgaria and the EU's phase-out of Russian natural gas is linked to a very long process. This was what Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov told bTV. "Back in May, European Commissioner Dan Jørgensen launched an initiative according to which not only the consumption of Russian gas, but also its transit should be stopped," Minister Stankov said.

He added that many people later linked the same call by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov to a statement by US President Donald Trump, which is not accurate.

The minister pointed out that even after the stopping of Russian gas, Bulgaria will continue to be an extremely important factor on the gas map, as it has the capacity to transit 25 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Stankov said that Bulgaria could be a gateway for American liquefied natural gas to reach the EU.
