A section of the "Rila" motorway, which branches off the "Struma" motorway toward North Macedonia, will be granted under concession, Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov said in the town of Kyustendil. "On October 1, the Concessions Advisory Council will review the proposal for the concession of the Dupnitsa–Gyueshevo section", said Minister Karadjov. If approved, "Rila" will become the first motorway in the country to be built by a private investor.
Minister Karadjov expects that by the spring of 2026, an international consultant will be selected for the "Rila" motorway, which connects Kyustendil, Dupnitsa and Samokov with the "Trakia", "Hemus" and "Struma" motorways and is part of European Transport Corridor 8.
