The 85th anniversary since Southern Dobrudzha returned within the bounds of Bulgaria will be celebrated with an official ceremony on 1 October in Silistra, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.
Representatives of the local and central authorities and members of the public will lay down flowers at the monument to Tsar Boris 3 in Danube Park. There will be a programme with the participation of students from the Peyo Yavorov foreign language school in Silistra, which is a partner to the event.
By force of the Treaty of Craiova signed on 7 September, 1940, Southern Dobrudzha was returned, peacefully, within the bounds of Bulgaria – restoring the border between Bulgaria and Romania in Dobrudzha from the 1878-1913 period. On 1 October, 1940, parts of Bulgaria’s 3rd army with lieutenant-general Georgi Popov at its head, ceremoniously entered Silistra.
