The police in Varna are investigating a threat against Bilyana Kotseva, sister of the city's mayor Blagomir Kotsev, the Bulgarian National Radio has reported.

"Stay alive for your loved ones" is the message written on boxes of cigars left in the family restaurant by a minor who is currently being sought by law enforcement. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for a murder threat.

The Varna mayor was detained in an operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission on July 8 and is currently in custody. He has been charged with participating in an organized criminal group for demanding bribes in public procurement procedures.
