Opposition challenges cabinet legitimacy in Constitutional Court

Velichie party leader Ivelin Mihaylov said in parliament that together with MECH and Vazrazhdane parties they have collected the necessary signatures to file a complaint with the Constitutional Court. They are challenging the election by parliament of the members of the Commission for Counteracting Corruption and the legality of the election of a government headed by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.

Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov also said that they will refer the amendments to the laws on the State Agency for National Security, the State Intelligence Agency and the Special Intelligence Means Act to the Constitutional Court. The amendments take away the president's right to appoint the heads of these services.

If the Constitutional Court admits the cases for consideration and determines that the government was elected illegitimately, this will challenge all acts adopted by the Zhelyazkov cabinet.
