On October 6 and 7, Plovdiv is hosting the 9th UN Tourism Global Conference on Wine Tourism. The event is organized by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and is themed ''The Art of Wine Tourism''.

The discussions focus on the opportunities that wine tourism offers for development and territorial cohesion, cultural preservation, as well as job creation and economic growth. Over 300 participants from 30 countries are attending the forum in Plovdiv.

A memorandum is set to be signed between UN Tourism and the University of Food Technologies Plovdiv (UFT), laying the foundation for the creation of an International Academy for Wine and Tourism. Professor Plamen Mollov, a member of the UFT leadership, stated that UFT will become the 11th university in the world to train specialists in wine tourism in cooperation with UN Tourism.
