On October 8, the two-month grace period given to merchants to comply with the requirements of the Law on the Introduction of the Euro expires. During this period, they were expected to label the prices of goods and services both in leva and euros.

The Commission for Consumer Protection and the National Revenue Agency will begin active inspections to identify any violations. Starting tomorrow, sanctions will be imposed for unjustified price increases, incorrect currency conversion and failure to display dual pricing. Fines for a first offense can reach up to 7,000 BGN (EUR 3,579), rising to 14,000 BGN (EUR 7,158) for repeated offenses, reported BTA.

From January 1, 2026, Bulgaria is expected to join the Eurozone and all payments in the country will be made in euros.
