The European Commission will provide around €50 million from the EU agricultural reserve to fruit, nut and vegetable producers in Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland and Romania who have suffered significant damage from adverse weather events, BNR correspondent in Brussels Angelina Piskova reported.
Bulgaria will receive €7.4 million, with support from the European Union being matched by up to 200 percent with national funds. Payments must be made before April 30, 2026, in order for them to take effect.

"Bulgaria experienced unusually warm weather in the spring, with high temperatures in February, which caused fruit trees to bloom too early. The cold and frost in March and April damaged many crops, especially almonds, apples, apricots, cherries, peaches, pears, prunes and walnuts," the EC said.
