The second edition of the unique Blackthorn Festival will be held today in the village of Salash near Belogradchik, northeastern Bulgaria.
The event will begin on the square, where locals will offer sweets and jam from tart blackthorns collected in the Balkans, as well as wines, liqueurs, and syrups. Amateurs from Salash, Belogradchik, and the Serbian village of Novo Korito will contribute to the festive mood along with tasting local dishes and drinks.

The idea for the festival in the border village came from the deputy mayor Georgi Nikitov and Toplica Ignatovic, organizer of the “Shiporiada” festival in Novo Korito. The Turlach Society in Serbia, as well as the former mayor of Belogradchik Emil Tsankov, are also involved in its preparation.

The Blackthorn Festival is defined as a living reflection of the traditions and cultural exchange between the Bulgarian and Serbian communities in the region.
