Sofia is hosting the finals of ER Champ 2025 — described by the organisers as the world’s largest international escape room competition. Taking place on 19 and 20 October, the event will bring together twelve teams from around the globe, each of which has secured their spot through tough qualifying rounds.

Bulgaria will not have a representative in the finals, although sixteen Bulgarian teams took part in the online qualifiers. Still, the opportunity to host is a major recognition, noted Nadezhda Danabasheva, Chair of the Bulgarian Escape Room Association, in an interview with BNR’s Hristo Botev programme.

Escape rooms first appeared in Bulgaria eleven years ago and have since become part of a global phenomenon, attracting millions of players worldwide. They offer a fun and imaginative way to immerse yourself in another world, both literally and figuratively. Each scenario has its own theme, ranging from mysteries and crime stories to science fiction and adventure.
"In the space of an hour or ninety minutes, participants must crack a code, solve a mystery, or complete a specific mission. All you need is enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure,” explained Danabasheva.

ER Champ 2025 promises to be a highlight for competing teams and international escape room fans alike, with a full programme of events ranging from watching the finals to taking part in themed games and entertainment.
